Information Technology and Business

Within the Information Technology and Business department, students from Years 8-10 have an opportunity to experience a variety of subjects that enhance their learning.

Business refers to enterprising endeavours undertaken in order to meet human needs and wants. Business impacts on and presents a range of challenges to individuals and members of groups and organizations in their roles as citizens, consumers, workers or entrepreneurs. These challenges may include:

  • participating as a responsible citizen in business environments;
  • making consumer decisions to meet the needs and wants of self and others;
  • entering into contractual agreements and managing personal finances, investments and records; and
  • owning or managing a business, enterprise or venture.

.

Our society relies on the creation of knowledge and the exchange of information. Active and informed participants in this society need to be flexible and self-directed, work to patterns of logic, combine analysis with intuition, exercise discretion, behave ethically and work collaboratively.

Business practices involve the use of innovation, entrepreneurial creativity, strategic planning, management, marketing, communication, and information and communication technologies. Information and communication technologies impact upon the ways people do business – for example, the ways that people interact, trade, and manage records. Information and communication technologies can be used to enhance business activities and produce high-quality outcomes.

Through information and communication technology, individuals can make creative, innovative and socially responsible uses of information and create information and communication technology products for themselves and others.

Students choosing to study business and/or information and communication technology at Emmaus College will develop relationships that allow them to value learning as well as being able to perform to the best of their ability to achieve positive outcomes.

The department demonstrates integrity in what we do and what we are seen to do. The learning process should be based on one of mutual respect. The Responsible Thinking Program reinforces the idea of respect within the classroom. Individual learning styles, learning rates, contexts and abilities need to be considered within the classrooms.

The empowerment of students to become fully active members of their community and to be lifelong learners is essentially the focus of business and information and communication technology.
