- CELEBRATING 40 YEARS OF MUSICALS! -

In 2011, Julia Gillard was our Prime Minister, the Space Shuttle Discovery makes its final landing, and Sebastian Vettel wins the Australian Grand Prix. Emmaus College also presents Hot Mikado in 2011.

Hot Mikado follows the handsome and rebellious Nanki-Poo, who falls in love with the beautiful Yum-Yum. However, Yum-Yum is engaged to the powerful Ko-Ko. As Nanki-Poo and Yum-Yum’s forbidden romance blossoms, they must navigate the absurdities of Titipu’s laws and traditions. Hot Mikado is a comedic reinterpretation of Gilbert and Sullivan’s classic operetta The Mikado, showcasing elements of jazz, swing, scat, and blues.

This week-long work-experience program in May is aimed for students in Years 10–12 and offers the chance to engage with a range of departments at Queensland Theatre, showcasing the variety of career pathways the arts can offer. 1992 saw Mario Kart make its debut, Bill Clinton becomes President of the USA, Russia is officially formed and the 1992 Emmaus College Musical is How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

The Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, narrates the success of an ordinary man in the chaotic world of corporate giants. J. Pierrepont Finch, a spirited window washer with big dreams, stumbles upon a book titled `How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying` and embarks on a journey to climb the corporate hierarchy.

In 2015, we saw Cyclone Marcia make landfall on Rockhampton, Michelle Payne become the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup and Emmaus College chose Grease for their musical!

Emmaus College presented Grease in 2015, which revolves around the lives of a group of high school students, with a particular focus on the romance between Sandy, a new student at Rydell High, and Danny, the school’s cool and charismatic leader of the T-Birds. As the two lovebirds navigate the challenges of peer pressure, teenage angst, and personal transformation, the musical explores themes of youth and identity.

It’s the year 2000; we thought Y2K would cause widespread chaos, the first-ever crew to live on the International Space Station arrives in Space and Sydney hosts the 2000 Olympics. You’ve also just bought tickets to Emmaus College’s production of West Side Story!

West Side Story tells the story of the rivalling Jets and Sharks, who are locked in a conflict for territory and respect. Amidst the tensions, Tony, a former Jet, falls in love with Maria, the sister of the Sharks’ leader. Their forbidden romance unfolds against the backdrop of prejudice, cultural clashes, and the desire for a better life.
